Tips for Good Digestion
Good amount of physical activity coupled with the right foods like essential fiber, nutrients, vitamins and minerals all facilitate good digestion. Proper metabolic activity of the body and absorption of food juices into the system reflect in the entire personality of an individual. It keeps both the body fit and the skin glowing and attractive. Avoiding foods high in fats and cholesterol, practicing healthy eating habits is paramount in maintaining a healthy, fit and fine digestive system.
Home Remedies for digestion
- For good digestion through out the day and proper bowel movement, first thing in the morning, take a glass of warm water, mix in a tsp of lime juice with two teaspoons of honey. This is great for cleansing the digestive tract, get the juices flowing and helps eliminate the toxins.
- Maintain proper regular food timings every day. Do not skip meals or follow irregular diet routines as this might through the digestive system off the track, ending up in poor digestion and is over all unhealthy.
- Chew the food well before swallowing. Do not guzzle down and eat in a rush, sip water occasionally in-between for easy swallow.
- Do not eat until you are completely full. Eat till you are 3/4th full, this improves digestion and maintains proper metabolic activity.
- Drink plenty of water during the day for improved digestion. Avoid carbonates drinks, alcohol with food; these cause more damage to the digestive system than doing any good.
- Include three meals in a day. A filling energetic breakfast that consists of a glass of fresh fruit juice, breakfast cereal with milk or wheat bread should be ideal ,followed by lunch with essential nutrients, a healthy snack in- between and then a light dinner.
- Avoid foods high in saturated fats like butter, cream, and cheese. Go for foods high in fiber and those that digest easily causing no constipation.
- Include fluids like fruit juices, vegetable juices, soups, lime juice any time during the day.
- Avoid food combinations that are doing go well together, like avoid milk products with salt based foods, milk products with meat or fish.
- Morning walks, jogging, swimming are excellent for good digestion. Start your day with at least a half an hour workout, this peps up the metabolic activity of the system.
- Fresh rhubarb is excellent for good digestion.
- Dates, almonds, apricot, grapes, mango, pineapples and prunes have laxative properties for constipation.
- Psyllium husk also known as Ispaghula and Isapgol is a gentle laxative with cooling and diuretic properties and is an excellent home ayurvedic remedy for indigestion.
- Use less oil while preparing lunch and dinner.
- Ginger is a good home remedy for constipation; black tea with ginger can be had twice a day.
- Practice healthy snacking during those pangs for junk food. Have a bowl of fruit or a bowl of salad instead of gorging on fries and other junk food. This is one way of improving good digestion.
- Take a ten minute walk after every lunch and dinner, do not lie down or sit immediately.
