Toothache treatment
Be it a child or an adult everybody has experienced toothache at some point of their life. It is a temporary, scathing pain occurring in and around the teeth and in the jaws. The pain can either be minimal, sharp, searing or burning. It can come and go at intervals or can be continuous. The throbbing increases in contact with cold, sweet or hot sensation. A fever can follow a toothache.
The main causes of toothache would be fragmented tooth, a cracked tooth, dental decay, dental abscess, gum infection and exposed tooth root which occurs when the gums subside due to forceful brushing of teeth. Sometimes the pain can generate after a dental treatment also.
Sometimes the tooth may be free of any disease but as a symptom of other ailments, toothache can occur.
- Patients with angina suffer from severe toothache or jaw pain.
- Disease and infection of the sinuses can also cause toothache and jaw pain.
- Ulcer of the gum surrounding a tooth may bring throbbing in and around the tooth.
- Sometimes pain in the ear may spread to the dental area
Home Remedies for Toothache
Yoga Asanas
The good news is toothache can be prevented and also be relieved by few yoga asanas if done regularly.
Pascimottanasana
Stretch you legs straight sitting on the ground, hold the two big toes of the feet; bend down so that you forehead touches the knees. While doing these breathe normally counting the inhale-exhale at least 10 times.
Matsyasana
Lie flat on the ground, make your knees in the posture of padmasana, bend your neck facing up, and hold your toes placing the elbow on the ground. Count 10.
Simhasana
Sit in the posture of Vajrasana, spreading the fingers, place your palm on the knee, open your mouth wide open, and take the tongue out and the stretch the muscle of the mouth, breathing normally, counting 10.
Pranayama
Sit in padmasana posture, close eyes and mouth, take long breath through the nostrils and also exhale through them. Count 10. The other asana reducing toothache would be shavasanam, sharvangasanam etc.
Ayurvedic Remedies
- Mix 2 teaspoon of ginger juice with a pinch of salt. Apply on affected gum or tooth.
- Drop cinnamon or clove oil on the base of the aching tooth. Can be mixed with a pinch of pepper (kali mirch) also.
- Boil an inch length bark of Neem with 4-5 cloves in a cup of water. Refrigerate the mixture after straining. Daub the potion where required.
- Chew fresh shoots of neem or babool.
- Dab a cotton wool ball soaked in a mixture of asafoetdia (hing) and lemon juice on the aching area, immediate relief is guaranteed.
- A tiny piece of onion can also be placed at the affected area.
- Press with ice.
