Ayurvedic Remedies For Migraine

According to the Ayurvedic books, all the substances that are found in the nature have a therapeutic value but they should be used properly. These medicines are used not only to eliminate the symptoms but the disease itself. Here are some simple formulations of ayurveda that we can use for the remedy of migraine.

A diet consists of pitta soothing is helpful for migraine relief and also works as a preventive measure.

A paste of salt crystals and clove in milk is a regular household remedy for migraines.

In the morning take 1 ripe banana. Peel and chop into pieces then add 1tsp of warm ghee, date sugar and on top, a pinch of cardamom.

Make a mixture of this and take ½ teaspoon two times each day after breakfast and dinner along with lukewarm water.

Peppermint, lavender, sage, rose and chamomile are some other things used for the remedy of migraine headaches.

Paste of freshly ground sandalwood or freshly ground clay can also be applied to the forehead, let it dry then rub it off with hands and wash off.

Yoga Asanas

“Yoga” is a Sanskrit word that means “union” or “joining”. Yoga actually includes different types of disciplines from meditative to physical postures, spiritual and devotional practices. The most traditional and common type of yoga is “Asana” or “Hatha” yoga. Here the postures are carried out to align, promote flexibility and strengthen the body.

For the treatment of migraine, Savasana is quite helpful. Other recommended yoga postures for migraines are: Moon Salutation, Boat pose, Hidden Lotus, Spinal Twist, Palm Tree pose, Bow pose, and also standing on the toes.

You can also do a cooling Pranayama – a shitali exercise.
