Treating Diarrhea
Diarrhea refers to a condition of loose and frequent bowel movements. It is a condition where a person suffers from looseness of stool. When you have more bowel movement than you usually do then you are said to be suffering from diarrhea. Generally, a person’s bowel movement is said to be normal if it is not more than five times a day. When the bowel movement crosses five times in a day then a person has diarrhea.
Symptoms of Diarrhea
If you have diarrhea you will notice that your stool will be looser than usual irrespective of the number of bowel movements. This takes place when the water in the stool increases. The water in the stool increases if the stomach and/or the small intestine produce too much liquid, if the undigested liquid food passes very fast via the small intestine and colon or if the small intestine or colon does not take up sufficient water.
Types of Diarrhea
This disorder is categorized in to two types, which is chronic diarrhea and acute diarrhea. The diarrhea, which carries on for more than twenty-one days, is referred to as chronic diarrhea where as if the diarrhea carries on for a few days and not exceeding a week, it is referred to as acute diarrhea is. Acute diarrhea usually can cause death in people who are living in developing or underdeveloped countries. Most of the time, the victims to such diarrhea are babies. This normally takes place due to the shortage of safe drinking water.
You should drink huge amount of water if you are suffering from diarrhea. This will prevent dehydration in your body.
Causes of Diarrhea
The causes for acute and chronic diarrhea are not the same. However, some of the common causes for diarrhea are contaminated water, contaminated food, viral or bacterial infection, stress and so on.
Some of the causes of acute diarrhea are:
- Food poisoning.
- Viral infection of the stomach and small intestine.
- Bacterial enterocolitis.
- Diarrhea caused by certain drugs.
- Diarrhea caused by parasitic infection.

Home Remedies for Diarrhea
Some ayurvedic remedies, which you can resort to for diarrhea, are:
Take half teaspoon of dry ginger and add it to a cup of buttermilk. Drink this mixture.
Prepare of mixture of one-teaspoon honey, half-teaspoon mint juice and half teaspoon ginger juice.
You can also treat diarrhea with garlic capsules or fresh garlic. Garlic can destroy the destructive bacteria in the intestines.
Take about five basil leaves, a quarter teaspoon of sea salt and some black pepper in three tablespoons of curd. Eat this mixture for about four times a day for a week.
