COUGH – CURES AND CAUSES

A cough is defined as an unexpected spasmodic contraction or tightening of the thoracic cavity. Very often, cough is recurring in nature. A person coughs to eliminate the substances that are irritating the air passages and often a sound is produced when a person coughs.

It is referred to as a response of the body to get rid of any foreign substance or mucous which affect the air passages (that helps in carrying the air into the nose and lungs of a person). When the special cells beside the air passages are irritated, it causes cough

Cough can be grouped into two categories, productive coughs and non-productive coughs. A productive cough is one which generates mucous or phlegm from the lungs of the patient. Non-productive coughs are those coughs which do not generate phlegm or mucous. Moreover, cough can be classified into chronic cough and acute cough. Chronic cough lasts more than twenty-one days whereas acute cough do not last more then twenty-one days

The patients suffering from cough look out for medical cure more than any other kind of disease. It is one disease, which each and every one of us has suffered from at some point of time or the other in our lives.

CAUSES

Cough can be caused by various factors. Some of the causes of cough are: - When virus infects the upper respiratory tract, it will lead to acute cough. - If you have any kind of viral infection then the possibility of your developing cough will be more. - Diseases and disorders such as GERD, asthma, allergies, cystic fibrosis, etc can cause chronic cough. - Cigarette smoking also causes chronic cough. - Cough can develop as a side effect from certain kinds of medications. - Dust particles, pet dander, pollution, pollens and other types of irritants can also cause cough.

AYURVEDIC REMEDIES

Some of the natural remedies are for cough is as follows: - Mix honey with the juice ginger. Take this mixture thrice a day for a few days. - To treat dry cough, mix a gram of turmeric powder to a teaspoon of honey and have this mixture. - Take some water. Add tealeaves and few pieces of ginger to it and then water boil. Drink this water to cure cough. - Before going to sleep, take a glass of warm milk and add some honey to it. You should drink this before you go to bed. - You can also chew a cardamom (for as long as you can). - Boil a glass of milk and add three cloves of garlic to it. Drink this milk before you go to bed at night. - Take about 30 ml of warm milk and add half teaspoon of turmeric powder to it. You should take this mixture two times a day for a few days. - You can take the extract of henna leaves and gargle your mouth
