BOILS – PATIENT GUIDE

An infection which is caused deep inside the skin is referred to as a boil or skin abscess. When a boil develops in the skin, it is usually reddish in color and the affected region is soft. After a while, the affected region becomes firm. Ultimately, the midpoint of the boil will become soft and get filled with white blood cells to get rid of this infection. Pus is a term, which is given to this liquid (which is a combination of white blood cells, proteins and bacteria).

Boils are of various kinds and some of which are Cystic acne, Pilonidal cyst, and Furuncle or Carbuncle and Hidradenitis suppurativa. Boils can develop to any one but usually those people who have certain diseases have more chances of getting this infection.

Making use of hot packs to drain the boil (when it is ready to drain only) is the most important treatment to cure boils. However, if you have diabetes or any other disease then you should go to your doctor straight away as this disease will deteriorate your immune system. Like wise if you are on any medications, which can restrain your immune system, you should also go to a doctor when you develop a boil.

CAUSES

Boils are caused by many reasons. There are some boils, which develops because of an ingrown hair while there are also boils, which are caused when a splinter or any other material has gone in to your skin. Moreover, when your sweat glands are infected you can also develop boils.

Skin is an important component of our immune system. It protects our body against any microbes and foreign particles. When you skin is scratched or cut and if that particular region is infected with bacteria then a boil will develop.

AYURVEDIC REMEDIES

There are a number of excellent natural remedies, which you can resort to in order to cure boils. Some of such remedies are: - Turmeric: Turmeric is a spice from India, which has healing properties as it is, purifies the blood and helps in fighting inflammation. Using turmeric to cure boils is the best ayurvedic remedy. Mix a teaspoon of turmeric in half a glass of warm water and drink this mixture daily, three times a day. Remember not to touch the boil or apply any external medicine to it. - Make a paste from nutmeg and water and apply it to your boil. It will heal quickly. - You can consume half a cup of aloe vera pulp or apply it to your boil externally. However, pregnant women should not consume aloe vera pulp. - Take a tablespoon of turmeric and sandalwood powder and mix them with milk. You can apply this paste to your boil externally. - Take ten portion of Flax seed powder, five portion of Althea root powder, five portion of Oat powder and one portion of Echinacea powder. Mix these powders to form a thick paste and apply to your boils.
