BLOOD PRESSURE PROBLEMS AND CURE
The blood from the heart is carried to different parts of the body through vessels called arteries. The pressure applied by the blood on the walls of the blood vessels is referred to as blood pressure. Blood pressure is usually referred to as systemic arterial blood pressure unless it is indicated differently. Systemic arterial blood pressure refers to the pressure in the large arteries that carries blood to the different parts of the body other than the lungs.
The value of blood pressure is measured in millimetres of mercury everywhere in the world. Blood is pumped into the arteries each time the heart beats. Systolic pressure refers to the highest pressure and this occurs when the heart beats. Your blood pressure will decline in between the heart beats or when your heart is at rest. This is referred to as diastolic pressure.
You will notice that blood pressure is always provided in two numbers and that is the systolic and the diastolic pressures. These numbers are usually written one on top and one on the bottom. The number on top is the systolic pressure and the number on the bottom is the diastolic pressure. 12/28/2006
